THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

Let us not grow tired of doing good,
for in due time we shall reap our harvest, if we do not give up.
So then, while we have the opportunity,
let us do good to all…. – Galatians 6:9-10

The Fifth Object of Kiwanis:  To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities.

Kiwanis Education #69 : In 1998, the Kiwanis International Board adopted the slogan “Serving the Children of the World” for use on Kiwanis letterheads, publications, and literature. This slogan does not replace the official motto of Kiwanis, “We Build,” but is intended to promote greater public awareness of Kiwanis’ primary service focus and worldwide scope.

THIS WEEK...

Sometimes the words just flow from my fingers onto the computer screen, but today it seems to take longer for the words to travel that short distance.  Perhaps it’s because I’m so overwhelmed with the fact that the St. Martinville Kiwanis Club members are now proud parents of a new sponsored youth organization.
Yes, dear friends, the Acadiana Homeschool Key Club has sent in its application for charter.  This comes to fruition after 3-1/2 years from concept to club charter.  Special thanks goes to Donna Andrepont (AHKC Advisor) and her daughter, McKenna Andrepont (AHKC President).  Without their willingness to embark on this new adventure and their hard work gathering kids from Jeanerette to Leonville, we would not have our new club.  Donna and McKenna were our guests this week and they shared their experiences with the organization of the club and also answered questions about homeschooling in general.

We still have cold drinks available for sale at St. Martin Oil Company/Margaret Poirier.  Please be generous and purchase a case of Dr. Pibb or Sprite.  This has been a paid Pepper Festival announcement.

President Larry is requesting your input – sharing an experience or idea – 5 minutes maximum – contact Larry if you’d like to participate at a meeting.  Larry also requested assistance with speaker scheduling.  Please call him if you have an idea for a speaker.

Are you looking for a simple Kiwanis project to get your feet wet (well, maybe wet is not the best term to use right now with all our rain)?  Anyway, Pictures with Santa is an easy Saturday morning project which practically runs itself.  If you’re interested, contact Carol at 367-6604.

Next week will be our evening board meeting and Lt. Gov. Philip deMahy will be our guest speaker and he will tell us about the “Mission Goat Project in Haiti”.  I think he’s bringing an interclub with him.

Thanks to all Kiwanians to have taken the challenge and are involved with the reading program at ELC.  K.R.I.S. is going well, but it’s not too late to volunteer.

Our sincere condolences to Mary Arton
on the death of her brother, Percy Dupuis.
Mr. Dupuis lived in Dallas, Texas.
