THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

Man’s worst sin towards our fellow creatures
         is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them;
            that’s the essence of inhumanity.
                              —George Bernard Shaw

The Fourth Object of Kiwanis:  To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.

Kiwanis Education: The first Kiwanis club was organized in Detroit, Michigan, USA, in 1914. The group received a charter from the state of Michigan on January 21, 1915-the day that is regarded as the birth date of Kiwanis. The club’s name is Detroit Kiwanis Club No. 1 in recognition of its heritage.

THIS WEEK...

“Baby, it’s cold outside.”  Remember that old song?  Well, it’s very appropriate for our weather right now.  I hope everyone is staying warm and safe.

I am sorry if you missed our first meeting of the new year.  Carol Lagarde was our speaker and had wonderful information and pictures about the terra cotta soldiers found in China which were crafted in 200 B.C. and then buried, only to be discovered in the mid 1970s.  Thanks, Carol, for that great presentation.

Mid Winter Conference is next Saturday in Lafayette.  This is a wonderful opportunity to meet with other Kiwanians from our area and see what they are doing in their clubs and to share some of the great things that we are doing in our club.  If you’d like to attend, you can register at the door.  So far, the people who have said that they are going: Larry Roy, Margaret Richard, Christine Berard, Judy Bonhomme, Leslie Thibodeaux.

In that same vein, the District convention this summer will be At Sea!  Aug. 12-16 departing from New Orleans, sailing to Cozumel and back on the Carnival Cruise Ship Triumph.  Our own Christine Berard will be installed as next year’s Lt. Governor on the cruise ship.  Anyone interested in going, please check out conferences on our district website – www.lamisstenn.org

Coldnote:  I wonder just how many gumbos will be cooked this weekend?
