THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
One of the qualities that separate us two-legged animals from the four-legged ones is compassion.
It is what makes us stand up tall instead of crawling about on all fours.
And standing up tall is what frees our arms to reach out to a fellow being and say, “Let me help you.”
                                    – Beverly Sills

The Second Object of Kiwanis: To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.

Kiwanis Education #66 : Club bylaws set a limit of 90 minutes for a club meeting, from the time when the meeting is called to order until it is adjourned. Clubs are required to conduct meetings at least twice per month. To receive attendance credit, a member must be present for at least 60 percent of a meeting.

THIS WEEK...

I have to make this observation.  I’m not sure if you take the time to read the top section of the bulletins, but our club has been continuously bringing you news of your Kiwanis organization for the past 17 years.  This bulletin marks the last issue of  volume 17.   And out of  52 weeks of the year, your team has brought you 43 bulletins.  Thanks, Peg and Marti, for your part in our great bulletin effort each week.

That being said, this week our meeting was all about Pepper Festival and Highway Cleanup.

Our semi-annual cleanup will take place this Saturday at 8:00 a.m.. in front of the National Guard Armory.  If you have volunteered but are unable to go, please call Larry as soon as possible because of the food preparation.  The breakfast is delicious but he and Sarah don’t want to eat leftovers for a week!  Anyway, this is a great project and gets us out there with some of our sponsored youth.

We raised $145 with our “From the Heart” collections this month.  With a vote from the club, we matched funds from our coffers (and threw in an extra $10) making our donation to Trinity Catholic $300.  Thanks to everyone for your support.  President Dennis also reported the ordering of one AED for Trinity Upper Campus at a club cost of $1544.

Pepper Festival committee meeting was held this week and tee shirts were available for Kiwanians to purchase.  If you’re getting a Kiwanis tee shirt, you can check out the information on the website www.pepperfestival.org and call Jean 991-4188.  Her deadline for ordering  KIWANIS logo shirts is Monday.  And speaking of the website, please check out the hard work Marti has put into our festival website.  Everyone is working so well to make our festival the success that it can be.  Thank you!

Installation banquet is next Wednesday evening at Clambeaugh’s Restaurant.  NO MORNING MEETING.  Please make every effort to attend the banquet in order  to congratulate your outgoing officers and directors and show your support to the incoming crew.  We will have Silent Auction and Peggy Hardy has volunteered to chair this section of the banquet.  Please be generous with your donations and checkbook!  Personally, I’m hoping to knit a couple of items for the auction and maybe put a small theme basket together for bid.  Remember, be creative in your ideas.  Past offerings have been dinners cooked by Kiwanians, mystery books, gift certificates, photography options, Kiwanis pins, soup for your freezer – just to name a few.  Also note, in keeping with our KRIS project, our theme for this banquet will be children’s books.

IN ORDER FOR US TO GIVE AUDREY A HEADCOUNT BY MONDAY, PLEASE CALL JEAN 394-9734 OR GERRY 394-9396 WITH AN ANSWER AS TO WHETHER YOU’RE GOING OR NOT.  This saves us from getting on the phone and calling everyone.  We appreciate your thoughtfulness.  Thanks!
