THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
 Neither fire nor wind,
     birth nor death
              can erase our good deeds.
                          -- Buddha

The First Object of Kiwanis: To give primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than to the material values of life.

Kiwanis Education #65 : There is no such thing as “life membership” in Kiwanis. However, Kiwanis International does grant Life Member Status in return for a payment equal to 15 times the current International dues. The number of Kiwanians granted Life Member Status in any year is limited. Kiwanians seeking Life Member Status must have been members for at least three years and be approved by the club board. Payment may be made by the individual member, but Life Member Status often is obtained for a member by his or her club as a form of special recognition. Clubs are not billed for International dues for members with Life Member Status. But these members do continue to pay the KIWANIS magazine subscription fee and the general liability insurance fee, as well as club and district dues.

Our guests again this week were our ‘trainers’ for K.R.I.S.  Teachers from Early Learning Center (ELC)gave us a brief lesson or training on how to work with the kids for the reading program which our club is initiating with ELC.  Please ask for Sheila Morrison when you go to school to read to a child.  She is the coordinator and will make the assignments. I have included the information sheet from ELC for the KRIS program.  On a personal note, I visited the classrooms and was introduced to my special friend with whom I will be working each week.

Next week, our meeting will be Pepper Festival Committee meeting, in order to bring everyone up to date and allow for tee shirt ordering.  If you are not able to make the meeting, we will have the tee shirts at the banquet for additional orders.

Speaking of banquet --

 You are invited to attend

Kiwanis Club of St. Martinville

Installation Banquet

Clambeaugh’s Restaurant

Wednesday, October 7 at 6:00 p.m.

Two tickets to the banquet are being enclosed in a special mailing to you this week. We are asking each member to purchase at least one of their tickets to the banquet, even if you cannot attend.  It is a fundraiser for our club and your financial support is always appreciated.  Of course, we’d rather have you attend so that we may socialize with you and catch up on what’s going on in your busy world.  The evening at Clambeaugh’s Restaurant promises to be a fun time for all in attendance.  Also in that regard, we will be having a Silent Auction in conjunction with the banquet.  This is always a fun event.  Be creative.  We will take single items and themed baskets.  We’re reverting back to the auction page for each item.  If your bid is the final one, you win!

IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN!  Highway Cleanup is October 3 at 8:00 a.m. in front of the National Guard Armory on Cemetery Highway.  An hour of cleanup and delicious breakfast.  Contact Larry Roy if you have not yet signed up and would like to volunteer.

Remember: We have a lot of fish to fry... in Kiwanis!
