THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
If you want to be happy,
set a goal that commands your thoughts,
liberates your energy, and inspires your hopes.

  —Andrew Carnegie

The Sixth Object of Kiwanis:  To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism, which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill.

Kiwanis Education #23:  Kiwanis International’s first Worldwide Service Project was initiated in 1993 and formally launched in 1994.  The project is designed to eliminate iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) as a world health problem. Iodine is an essential micronutrient in the human diet. About 1 .5 billion people live in iodine-deficient areas of the world, and half of them are children.

THIS WEEK:
Okay, before I forget … there is only ONE yellow stone in the lottery bag.  If you come to the meeting next Wednesday evening, AND you participate in the lottery, you have a 50/50 chance of winning mega bucks!  So this is a real incentive to come to the evening meeting of the St. Martinville Kiwanis Club at the Sheriff’s office. The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. and you are invited to brown bag it if you choose.  The meeting shouldn’t last more than an hour and we will have board meeting included in that time frame.  We will also have a guest speaker. Steve Comeaux is greeter and Gerry will lead us in prayer.

President Dennis announced that for the next three weeks, in lieu of AED, the jar proceeds will be used for St. Francis Diner.  If you cannot come to a meeting and would like to contribute to this worthwhile cause, you can contact Annie and Ed Durand at 394-6239 to get more information or make a donation.

Annie announced the date for the Foster Children Christmas Party being December 10.  Falling in line with that date are Pictures with Santa on December 6 and Gift Wrapping of the presents on December 6.  Gerry announced she would not be available for the gift wrapping this year so Annie is looking for a volunteer whose house is large enough to wrap the gifts.

Our program this week was the presentation by the president of his “We have a lot of Fish to Fry… in Kiwanis” membership incentive program and his special Golden Frying Pan Award.  The program will work much the same as the millionaire game but with some differences.  President Dennis is giving lots of fish for any volunteer for President Elect and Pepper Chair.  You could be in the running for the end of year $250 prize before we even start the year!  Think about it.  (To check out the details, click this link.)

Dennis also asked each board member to choose a month to be in charge of guest speakers.  These board members will rely on you to help them fill the weekly guest speaker roster.

Webmaster's Note:
    As you can see,
I've been working to update many areas of the club website to make it fresh, fun, entertaining, informative, current/correct and, in some cases, easier to navigate (I hope!)
Please take a few minutes to look around. Some of these things will not be as obvious as others as they were more "back of the house" than actual changes on the page. However, a fresh pair of eyes looking over things will see mistakes and different computers will display things differently.  So... if you see a boo-boo and/or have a problem with a page loading or a link, or it just plain looks weird to you, PLEASE let me know! ...and in this case, it is always helpful to know if you are using a PC or Mac, what platform (such as WindowsXP/Vista/MacOS), who your internet provider is (such as ATT&T, AOL, Cox, etc.) and even what internet browser software you use (like Internet Explorer, Opera, Netscape or?)
Also, you will notice that there are still pages "under construction" (club history, for sure!) ... and if you have anything that you'd like to add, PLEASE don't hesitate to send it along!!  (Pictures would be GREAT!)
Let me know what you think...   see y'all Wednesday night!    ---Marti

President’s Corner
~This is just a friendly reminder to all the members of the board to choose the months for assignment. We will review them at the next meeting.
Also, in the very near future I will be asking for volunteers to chair the different projects and programs we put on. Please dig deep in your hearts when the paperwork comes around. See ya’ll Wednesday Evening.       --Dennis
