THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
Most people search high and wide
   for the keys to success.
    If they only knew,
the key to their dreams lies within.
                      – George Washington Carver

The Fifth Object of Kiwanis:  To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities.

Kiwanis Education #22:  Kiwanis membership surpassed 10,000 in 1919 and reached 100,000 in 1928. Membership fell below the 100,000 mark during the economic depression years of 1931-1939, but again surpassed 100,000 in 1940.  In 1952, membership passed the 200,000 mark and reached 300,000 in 1979.

THIS WEEK:
TIRED!  But a good tired.  That was the general feeling last Sunday evening.  We were “too pooped to pop” as the saying goes, but WOW!  Our Kiwanians did an excellent job – as usual – in putting on a great festival.  I want to echo Dennis’ thanks for all the hard work which made for a very successful festival.  Jean gave us a tentative figure of netting over $10,000 this year.  Of course, not all the tallying has been done so we will patiently wait for the final numbers.

This week, Kiwanian, Parish President, Good Friend, Guy Cormier came and spoke to our club about Constitutional Amendment # 4 dealing with Severance tax.  If you weren’t at the meeting and would like to know more about the benefits of Amendment 4 for our parish, please call Guy at his office – I’m sure he’d be happy to speak with you.  Suffice it to say that voting “for” this amendment is a very good thing for our parish coffers!

Not only did Guy give us great information concerning the upcoming election, he also brought with him one of our charter members and the first father/son Kiwanis legacy for St. Martinville Kiwanis.  Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Al Maytag was in the house!  He’s thinking of coming back to the club.  If you see him, please encourage him to rejoin!

President’s Corner

Again, I want to express my thanks to everyone who so generously gave of their time to work the Pepper Festival.  For our next meeting, being we have no guest speaker, we will go over the rules of our new awards game which include issuing a stringer with “fish” of different point values. We will also go over the rules of the “Golden Frying Pan” award.  This will be an award for outstanding achievement for the month. See you then. --Dennis
