THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

Practice the art of gratitude, the habit of thanksgiving, and the attitude of appreciation. – William Arthur Ward

The Third Object of Kiwanis:  To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business, and professional standards.

Kiwanis Education #27:
Monies received by Kiwanis clubs from fund-raising projects in which the public participates or from members or others for service activities sponsored by the club must be segregated from the administrative funds of the club and used only for the club’s service activities. Only the actual costs of the fund-raising activity can be charged to the service account. Nor can interest earned by the service account be transferred to the administrative account. All nonservice operating costs of the club must be charged to an administrative account, which is funded by member dues and fees.

THIS WEEK:

First of all, mark your calendars right now for the Pictures with Santa Project on December 6 (not sure yet who will be spearheading this project – any takers?) and the Foster Children Christmas Party on December 10.
Pictures begin at 9:00 a.m. at Bulliard Drive Housing Development.  Foster Party volunteer possibilities are 4:00 to set up at Sterling Alexander Building in Adam Carlson Memorial Park and 6:00 for the party.
One more morning meeting before the next evening meeting in Kiwanis.  Check calendar of events for specifics.
Our guest speaker this week was Paul Bourgeois of CHOICES.  Thank you, Jean and Elaine, for our speaker.  Paul shared with us the unique opportunity we have as volunteers to make a difference in 8th graders by speaking to them and helping them with their goals in life or CHOICES.  If you’re interested in more information, ask Jean or Elaine.
Marti Harrell introduced her guest, Ellen Bordelon, who is a prospective member of our club.  Thanks, Marti, for asking!
Marti will greet next week and Elaine will pray.  Our club is making its annual donation to Kiwanis International Foundation as well as the District Foundation in the amount of $300 each.

Plenty of Key Club news this week – our SMSH Key Club celebrated Key Club Week by activities each day at their school.  The week culminated with a Pizza Party attended by an interclub team of Larry Roy, Leslie Thibodeaux, Jean Potier, Kevin Dugas and Gerry LeBlanc.
An informational meeting of the Acadiana Home School Key Club (sponsored by the St. Martinville Kiwanis) was held on Tuesday in Lafayette at the library.  At least 14 high school kids were in attendance.  The next meeting will probably be in the first week of December.  The kids and parents were extremely excited and grateful for the opportunity of a home school Key Club.  The club is hoping to charter in early spring.

President’s Corner
We are approaching the Christmas Season and everyone is beginning to concentrate on personal up-coming festivities.  However, please make a special effort to assist in the Christmas activities which the St. Martinville Kiwanis Club puts on for the less fortunate children.
Please mark your calendars now.
Have a great weekend.
