THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

If you are going to make a difference,
you might as well make it
                 a positive one.
                          —Cal Ripken, Jr.

The Second Object of Kiwanis:   To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.

Kiwanis Education #25:
Article XI of the International Bylaws states: “After their election and before their assumption of office, all officers of Kiwanis International and of the districts thereof shall be known and designated by the title of the offices to which they have respectively been elected followed by the tern ‘designate.”’ Kiwanis International has formal offices titled Governor-Elect and President-Elect. To avoid confusion prior to October 1, successful candidates for Governor and President are referred to as Governor-designate and President-designate.

THIS WEEK:  You could tell the real gamblers at the meeting Wednesday (or the ones with good memories). The good, the brave, the rain-protected met for our weekly meeting and the possibility of BIG BUCKS!  The money in Lottery was won by Peggy Hardy - $140.50.  Other money collected and delivered was $125 donated to St. Francis Diner for Thanksgiving.  Thanks to all who contributed!

Our guest speakers this week were Alyson Haymark and Shelly Breaux of Big Brothers/Big Sisters program of Acadiana.  Coincidentally, our Kiwanis International Organization has just partnered with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Program.  Alyson and Shelly spoke about the mission of the Big program and stated that we have 8 children in St. Martinville who are on a waiting list to have a Big Brother or a Big Sister.  If you’re interested in becoming a Big, you may contact Alyson at ahaymark@acadianabigs.com  We were also invited to participate in the major fundraising project (bowling) which is going to be held in February.  Perhaps we could get a team together and have some FUN at the same time.

Next week our guest speaker will be Paul Bourgeois of Choices.  Leslie will greet and Elaine will pray.

Peggy has renamed our salt box with a very appropriate: “From the Heart.”  When ‘from the heart’ is not being used for AED fundraising, it will go to other worthwhile projects or needs.

Key Club Week will be celebrated by SMSH on Thursday, November 20 at 11:15 a.m.  We’ll keep you posted as to when Builders Club will celebrate.

President’s Corner
I would like everyone’s opinion on our first evening meeting. We did have one of the largest attendances for a regular meeting in a long time. I am also requesting that all members turn in your request for committee assignment and chairmanship by the November 19th meeting. If you are unable to attend the meeting please make a special effort to get the information to me. Thanks.
