THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

The person who gets along with others believes in the true worth of people,
knowing that we are all children of God,
and as His creations deserving of each other’s respect and understanding.
                                             – Norman Vincent Peale

The Fifth Object of Kiwanis:   To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities.

Kiwanis Education #50 :   Kiwanis International’s official publication has appeared continuously since 1917. It was first called “The Kiwanis Club.” Two other titles, “The Hornet” and “The Torch,” were tried in 19 18-20, but quickly abandoned for the simple descriptive title “The Kiwanis Magazine.” In 1976, this was further abbreviated to simply “KIWANIS.” The magazine is received by every Kiwanis member in the United States and Canada (except those in French-speaking clubs in Canada), and by each Kiwanis club throughout the rest of the world.

THIS WEEK:

We had a very interesting program this week – Ms. Roxanne Shirley, an avid quilter from Youngsville. Roxanne showed us her wonderful quilts and explained how the different quilts were constructed and the history behind each one.  Thank you, Carol Lagarde, for bringing Roxanne to our meeting.
Another exceptional year of Every Child a Swimmer has come to a close with 155 children more familiar with water and having a great sense of accomplishment!  Kudos to Christine and her team for a job well done.  Special thanks to Edna, the Builders Club and Home School Key Club for their hard work during ECAS.  And I will try to mention all the Kiwanians who took part in this project:  Christine and Dan Berard, Paul deMahy, Larry Roy, Edna Landry, Annie and Ed Durand, Jean and Ben Potier, Peggy Hardy, Melba Braud, Gerry and Dennis LeBlanc, Margaret Richard, Carol Lagarde, Jim Robb.  If I’ve forgotten someone, please let me know and I’ll acknowledge them next week.
Take a breath and get ready for the next project – Bike Safety Workshop, which will be held on June 6 at the St. Martin Parish Library.  Margot has something new in mind for the participants – they will travel through the back streets of St. Martinville this year, which will give them a real-life experience on their bikes.   Come on out and participate in this worthwhile project!  (Make sure you have a helmet if you’re riding).
Another group of Key Club members have joined the ranks of graduates and another Key Club scholarship was awarded at graduation last week.  Dominique Polk was the recipient.  Key Club also raised over $900 with their penny wars last week and Ms. Polk’s class won the free pizza party with the most money collected.  Congrats to everyone!

Again, congratulations to our new slate of officers and directors:
Larry Roy, president; Margaret Richard, v. president; Annie Durand, secretary; Peggy Hardy, treasurer; and directors: Steve Comeaux, Christine Berard, Tommy Romero, Judy Bonhomme, with Dennis and Gerry LeBlanc serving as past president and Pepper Chair.

Have a HAPPY & SAFE MEMORIAL DAY holiday

....but don't forget to pay tribute to those
who have made the ultimate sacrifice
and make it possible for use to enjoy our freedom.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!
