THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

Am I not destroying my enemies
when I make friends of them?
               - Abraham Lincoln

Second Object of Kiwanis:  To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.

Kiwanis Education #34:  The official emblems of Kiwanis and other Kiwanis-family members’ registered marks are created and controlled by the International Board of Trustees. No other organization or enterprise can use the names or emblems without prior consent of the International Board. Clubs, divisions, districts, and other official Kiwanis entities are licensed to use Kiwanis-family names and emblems on stationery, bulletins, and other items reasonably necessary to their operation, provided that such items are not resold for profit. Protection of our Kiwanis-family names and emblems from unauthorized use is imperative to maintain the reputation and public confidence Kiwanis has earned over many decades.

THIS WEEK:  We had a great program thanks to Peggy Hardy.  Mary “Bubbles” Guirard and Carl Blanchard, both from the Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site, who spoke to us about the history of the “Park” as some of us fondly have known the landmark.  Really interesting and it would behoove you to visit the Park and relearn the piece of history that we call our own.  Also on February 14 there will be a special historic program and re-enactment of the conflict between bands of vigilantes and anti-vigilante groups.  And if you’re 62 or older, no fee for you.  If you’re a young un’ - $2.

Football fever is in the air!  Kiwanian Carla JeanBatiste and her lovely little girl, made an appearance at our meeting this week. Carla was bragging, and rightly so, that her brother #80 on the Cardinals team, when he wins the Superbowl, will have won both a collegiate and NFL championship.

On that same vein, please come to Jean Potier’s house Sunday afternoon for food, fun and football.  Jean, and her husband, Ben, have a BIG SCREEN TV for our viewing pleasure.  As usual, the cost to defray meal expenses is $5 per person.  Dan wanted me to let you know that there will be free beer compliments of Budweiser.  Otherwise, you are asked to bring your own alcohol.  If you would like to bring snacks, you are welcomed to do so.  The menu for the game includes brisket, pasta salad, bread, baked beans.  We have a football pool to fill, so if you have relatives who had not gotten on a pool, we have squares for you to purchase.  Jean is receiving guests at 4:00 but has told me that you can come at any time.

As the money person for the Pepper Festival, Jean Potier presented a final summary for the 2008 festival.  Net income $13,500.00.  Yours truly was so pumped by the money figures, I am volunteering to chair the festival next year.  Is everyone on board to do the jobs you did last year?  Let me know, please!  It only works because you guys work so hard!

We offer our sympathy to Mary Arton on the loss of her father, Mr. Julien Dupuis, who died on Jan. 29 and is being buried on Jan. 30.  Mary, your family is in our thoughts and prayers.
