THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

For everything you have missed,
         you have gained something else;
            and for everything you gain, you lose something else.
                            –Ralph Waldo Emerson

The First Object of Kiwanis:  To give primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than to the material values of life.

Kiwanis Education #33:  There is no such thing as membership transfer from one Kiwanis club to another. After leaving a Kiwanis club, a former Kiwanian must be elected to membership in another Kiwanis club by that club’s board of directors, exactly like any new member. However, if a current member is moving to a new community, the club secretary can send a referral card to the Kiwanis club(s) in the new community, and the Kiwanian who is moving is encouraged to attend meetings of the clubs in the new area and choose one to join. He or she does not need to be sponsored by two members of the new club but can apply for membership directly.

THIS WEEK:
   If you missed the meeting this week, you missed the opportunity to get to know more about your fellow Kiwanians.  For instance, there are several people who do not use their first name on a regular basis.  Some of us didn’t even know their first names.  That’s right, this week we shared our full names, what we do or did for a living and a little known fact about ourselves.  It was very informative and interesting to know what people consider a little known fact about themselves.

Annie also reported on the Mid Winter conference which was attended by Annie, Judy, Margaret, Marti and Gerry.  Good information and an all around fun day was had by all.

Next week our guest speaker will be Mary “Bubbles” Guirard and she will speak on the Longfellow-Evangeline Commemorative Area.  Please make plans to attend!

Board Member Margaret Richard is in charge of guest speakers for the month of February.  I think she has guests lined up for the whole month so please plan on coming to see what she has in store for us.

The 2010 District Convention will be held the first weekend in August, beginning on Thursday, and it will cruise from New Orleans to Cozumel.   If you think you may want to go, please begin the process to get a passport, as you will need one for this event.

Super Bowl Party will be held at Jean Potier’s house with Jean and Peggy Hardy hosting.  The football pool will be available at the meeting next week so that you may mark your squares.  Also know that this is a wonderful opportunity to bring guests who may be potential members!  The cost is $5 per person and as usual, BYOB and snacks are welcome.  (see the invitation below)
