THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

The only weapon that becomes sharper
with constant use is the tongue.

The Fourth Object of Kiwanis:  To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.

Kiwanis Education #37:  Kiwanis International’s continuing service focus is called “Young Children: Priority One.” The Priority One Advisory Council is a group of more than 30 child-related organizations that advise Kiwanis on the Young Children: Priority One program and offer local partners to clubs for collaborative projects. Every Kiwanis club is urged to conduct at least one major Young Children: Priority One project each year.

THIS WEEK:
Before I discuss what happened at the meeting this week, I thought I’d give you a little structure lesson on Kiwanis:
   Club:  St. Martinville Kiwanis
Division: 17 (which includes the following clubs – dePont Breaux, St. Martinville, New Iberia, Cajun and Jeanerette)
   District:  Louisiana-Mississippi-West Tennessee
International:  which includes districts and clubs throughout the world.
Each club has officers, including a President.
Each division has a Lt. Gov.
   Each District has a Governor.
   And International has a President.

Does that make any sense?  If you have any questions, let me know.  And if you can tell Dennis the name of your Lt. Governor and Governor at the next meeting, you may win extra pounds of fish.

Margaret’s guest speaker this week was Father Justin from Notre Dame Church who came here via India. (Click on the thumbnail picture at left to view the full-size photo.) Fr. Justin gave us an interesting history/geography/cultural/religious lesson about India.  Very informative!  We’ll have to ask him to come back and tell us more.

Well, I (Gerry) won the lottery this week.  Peggy wasn’t at the meeting to give me my winnings but when I asked her about it, she said not to plan any big shopping spree with my cash.  I’ll let you know next week exactly how much I won.  So, needless to say, the pot begins anew next week.

I’m sorry if you play the fish to fry game and you weren’t at the meeting this week.  In honor of my birthday, President Dennis gave everyone in attendance 250 extra pounds of fish.  And since I celebrate my birthday all month long, he said to watch out for more surprises in honor of my birth MONTH.

Election of officers is coming up next month and Dennis announced this week that he will not be able to serve as President another year because of his workload.  You should know that if you decide to volunteer for this position, you are not alone.  You have many experienced people in the club who will be more than happy to assist every step of the way.  I’m not trying to downplay the office, but friends, it’s really easy!!!  It just sounds scary….

Note from your webmaster: New feature on our website, check out the Weekly Meeting Photo Gallery.  If a picture doesn't make the weekly bulletin, (or maybe it did?) I'll try my best to upload it to the gallery!  You can find a permanent link to the gallery at the bottom of the
