THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
     Little progress can be made
         by merely attempting to repress what is evil;
                 our great hope lies in developing what is good.

THIS WEEK...

     Claudia Hall from the Southwest Club in Lafayette was our guest speaker this week.  Her topic was to introduce us to the reading program that Southwest has had in place in Lafayette for a number of years.  She also answered questions that some of our members had about their program.

      Larry Roy mentioned that he had spoken to Jessica at ELC and we would begin signing up to volunteer after Labor Day for our reading with the kids.  Larry also asked up to get a partner from the community to help with our time slot.

Next Wednesday night is board meeting and it will be the joint meeting between the old and the new boards.  Everyone is invited to attend, as always, but if you are a board member who has been in office or one who’s been elected to begin Oct. 1, please make every effort to attend.   The meeting will be at the St. Martin Parish Court building – 307 Church Street – beginning at 6:30 p.m.  Please note the change in time.

Mary Arton and Ryan Landry are working hard on this year’s Pepper Festival Tee Shirt design.  They have a few designs in the works and we saw one of those at our meeting this week.

The following email was forwarded to me by Edna Landry, Kiwanian, ECAS co-chair, and Builders Club Advisor.  It’s exciting to have recognition for something that you’re going to do anyway because it’s the right thing to do!

Congratulations on having such a fine program!  It is always a pleasure to find another Kiwanis club getting involved and becoming a part of the solution.

I leave today to attend our Florida District DCON where I will have a workshop on Friday as well as a display for the three days. I will add a mention and your photos to my display and definitely mention your program during my workshop.

If you have a DVD about your program available I would greatly appreciate receiving a copy. I would be happy to send you a banner patch (for your club, Builders Club and also for any other "K Family" clubs that have participated) and a few pins for your key leaders in appreciation for their efforts.
