THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier.
Be the living expression of God’s kindness:
kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, and kindness in your smile.
                                                  –Mother Teresa

The First Object of Kiwanis:  To give primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than to the material values of life.

Kiwanis Education #46:  Persons who have performed a distinguished public service may be elected to honorary membership in a Kiwanis club. Honorary members must be re-elected annually. Honorary members may attend meetings and other club activities but cannot vote or hold office in the club. Honorary members do not pay membership fees or dues, but the club provides each honorary member with a subscription to KIWANIS magazine.

THIS WEEK:
Please check out the calendar of events – we have a lot going on in the next few weeks!  If you can volunteer for Every Child A Swimmer on any of the days (May 14, 15, 18, 19 or 20) please contact Christine 394-5264 or Gerry 394-9396.  We will also have a sign up sheet at the next few meetings.

Lt. Troy Dupuis with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office was our guest speaker on Wednesday.  He is in charge of the Sex Offender Registry for the Sheriff’s Office.  The Sheriff’s website www.stmartinsheriff.org  has a link that you can put your address and find out how many sex offenders live within one mile of your home.  Check it out.  Thanks, President Dennis, for having Lt. Dupuis as our guest this week.

I’m going to change hats right now and get on my Lt. Governor Soapbox!
Carol and her committee have been diligently working to get a slate of officers and directors for YOUR club for the coming year.  I understand that agreeing to be President of any organization is a commitment.  The better aspect of being President of our Kiwanis Club is that you have so much support at your fingertips.  This is not an alone position.  Not many other clubs have 4 former Lt. Governors and 2 tag team members at their disposal who are willing and able to give a hand when needed.  Can’t make all the morning meetings?  Not a problem.  Any one of your officers can step up to the plate and run the meeting.  Apprehensive about certain aspects of the presidency?  Not a problem.  Voice those concerns and see how ready someone in your club will be to help with that situation or apprehension.  The bottom line is – it’s not difficult when you have so many people all willing to help with your year.  That said, please prayerfully consider making a commitment to Kiwanis this year, and if you do, I will make a commitment to you to do all that I can to assist. (I hope Carol is flooded with volunteers!)  -- Gerry
