                                                           APRIL'S BIRTHSTONE IS THE DIAMOND
Formed deep within the earth where there is intense heat and pressure, diamonds are simply crystallized carbon. Volcanic activity of centuries ago brought these gemstones to the earth's surface, where they are found either within volcanic rock formations or washed out into rivers.
April's birthstone is remarkably simple in composition, yet stunning in its unique ability to reflect and refract light into vivid flashes of brilliant color.  The ancient Hindus called the Diamond "Vajra," meaning lightening, both because of the sparks of light thrown off by this gem as well as its invincible strength.  The diamond is harder than any other substance on earth. No more notable it its uncut state than a plain pebble upon the beach, the true beauty of the Diamond was not revealed until the 16th century, when gemstone cutting and polishing techniques were perfected.  A gift of a diamond is symbolic of everlasting love.

The Fourth Object of Kiwanis:  To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.

Kiwanis Education #43:  Circle K International is a sponsored program of Kiwanis International. Circle K is a service club for collegians and has about 12,000 members on some 525 university, college, and junior college campuses. Circle K affairs are largely managed by its members, who stage annual conventions and elect officers at both the district and International levels each year.

THIS WEEK:
Our evening meeting was for “takin care of business”.  Yes, it was board meeting and April’s Fool Day.

Our “from the heart jar” will be collected for the Skip-A-Meal project sometime during April.  If you would like to contribute, please do so when the jar comes around the table.

Highway Cleanup begins at 8:00 a.m. at the Armory Hall this Saturday.  Thank you for donating your time and energy to this worthwhile project.  Thanks, Larry and Sarah, for the good job that you always do with Highway cleanup and pancake breakfast.

Kiwanis International Convention will be held in Nashville June 25-27.  President Dennis, Gerry, Jean and Ben Potier have already said they will attend.  Judy Bonhomme is checking.  Any other takers?  There are special air travel rates of $49 one way from New Orleans to Nashville if you book by April 6.  On that same note, District Convention will be held the first weekend in August in New Orleans,  be thinking about that also.

Thanks to Ben Breaux for bringing his lovely wife, Patsy, as a guest to our meeting.  I think Dennis has already asked her to be a guest speaker during April.

Speaking of guest speakers, here is the list of who is in charge of which month:  Dennis – April; Carol – May; Gerry – June; Dan – July; Leslie – August; and September is open!
