The First Object of Kiwanis: To give primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than to the material values of life.
Kiwanis Education #18: English is the official language of Kiwanis International. However, key administrative and program literature is published in up to 13 additional languages, and simultaneous translation is provided at International conventions when required by a sufficient number of members.
THIS WEEK: This time of year means change not only for the fall season but in the leadership of our organization and a new Pepper Festival; new committees being named and people making commitments for a new year of service. Even though most changes are seamless, the one that draws my attention the most is when we begin a new year of Kiwanis in the form of your Kiwanis bulletin by volume and number. The Kiwanis Club of St. Martinville is beginning its SEVENTEENTH year of service to our community and several people in our organization are responsible for its inception. THANK YOU, Steve, Carol, Rock, Pat, Sydnie Mae and Peggy Hulin for running with the idea and forming our great Club.
This week we had Chip Maraist speak to us about archery and I, for one, was very pleasantly surprised at how interesting and informative his program was. This was not just for guys! Thanks, Jean, for having Chip speak to us. We’re all looking forward to the second installment of his program on archery.
President
Jean Potier presented Jim Rob with a Certificate of Appreciation for his
outstanding service to the Kiwanis Children’s Fund. Congrats, Jim!
If you
haven’t turned in your millionaire bucks, please call Jean and make
arrangements to get them to her ASAP.
Tickets will
be sold for the upcoming Installation Fish Fry. The cost has yet to be
determined but we’ll let you know as soon as possible. The Fish Fry will
be at Jean’s house and the menu will include fried fish, potato salad,
French bread, dessert. You are asked to bring yourself, your significant
other, prospective members and guests and whatever you want to drink. A joint board meeting was held this week at the library and the following business was conducted by both boards: 1) approval of minutes of last meeting; 2) tabled financial report; 3) approved sending notification of cancellation of membership to delinquent members; 4) selected Kiwanian of the Month; 5) encouraged the completion of disaster plan worksheets; 6) reported on Pepper Festival sponsorships already collected; 7) discussed the upcoming installation banquet which was changed to informal fish fry; 8) announced the club stimulus program theme for next year: “We have a lot of fish to fry”; 9) set a date and time for special board meeting of new officers and board members.
* Please note that President Designate Dennis LeBlanc has called a special board meeting for his new board on September 23 at 5:30 p.m. at his house. Supper will be served.
