THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK: People of character do the right thing even if no one else does, not because they think it will change the world, but because they refuse to be changed by the world. --Michael Josephson

The Fifth Object of Kiwanis:  To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities.

Kiwanis Education #52:  Club bylaws prevent the club from being used for any political purpose or, as a club, from actively participating in the political candidacy of any person. But this does not mean that the club cannot take an interest in public affairs. Article XIV, Section 1, of the Standard Form for Club Bylaws states, “This club shall seek, by fair discussions at its meetings and in other ways, to keep its members informed on all questions of public importance and any proposed legislation affecting the community, state, province, or nation in which this club is located.” Equal time is normally given to opposing political candidates or supporters on each side of controversial issues.

This Week:   Well, if you missed the Banquet AND this week’s meeting, you lost out on photos of the wonderful work we do in Kiwanis.  Steve Comeaux, our resident photographer extraordinaire, was our program moderator on Wednesday.  And all the times that he has that camera up to his face … well, the results show our club in action!  Awesome to see what we’ve been doing the last two years and recapture the warm fuzzys that we get when doing a service project.  Thanks, Steve, for a great program.

CALLING ALL KIWANIANS – whether you are unable to attend meetings or always attend, this is the time to step up and help with the Pepper Festival.  This is a great opportunity for all of us to get together and share what Kiwanis is all about – fun, volunteerism, camaraderie and did I mention FUN?

When last I reported on the Installation Banquet, I failed to mention the Millionaire Game winners for the year.  Gerry LeBlanc collected the most money for the year and Carol Lagarde was the recipient of the Millionaire drawing.

Jean and Leslie are asking for Kiwanis TV personalities who would be willing visit the local stations with them  to promote our Pepper Festival.  Any takers?  Don’t be modest!  See the Calendar of Events above for dates/times and call Jean 394-9734 or Leslie 364-6793.

President Jean is also asking for volunteers for committees, to greet at meetings, get guest speakers and also lead the prayer.  She is determined to have a house full of Millionaires and has been reported to be free with money.  Don’t you want to be a Millionaire this year?
