THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

    Remember those men and women
     who made the ultimate sacrifice
that we might enjoy our freedoms.

The Fifth Object of Kiwanis:  To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities.

Kiwanis Education #02:  The first name suggested for the organization that became Kiwanis was “Benevolent Order Brothers.” But Ottie Robertson, a charter member of the Detroit No. 1 club, didn’t like it. “It seems to me.” he said, “that Benevolent Order Brothers is a mighty peculiar name for an organization of businessmen. Who wants to be a BOB?”

THIS WEEK:  Thomas Jolivette of the St. Martin Parish Teen Court program was our guest speaker.  Mr. Jolivette explained the program which deals with kids who are misdemeanor first offenders and they enter a 24 week program and are judged and sentenced by their peers.  A very interesting program about another way to deal with young people who are in crisis.

Our club is winding down for the summer with only one service project in the works – our annual Bike Safety project will be on June 7 at the St. Martin Parish Library in St. Martinville at 9:00 a.m.  If you would like to ride your bike to Wal-Mart with the kids, please don’t forget your helmet!

Speaking of summer, all of you teachers, we’d love to see you on Wednesday mornings at our meetings.  And the rest of you who used getting kids to school as an excuse, we’re looking forward to seeing you also!

Leslie Thibodeaux, Interclub chair, organized an interclub with New Iberia Cajun on Tuesday at noon.  In attendance were:  Leslie, Marti, Gerry and Paul.  Someone from their club made an observation that I may have to check out – St. Martinville Kiwanis may have the highest per capita Lt. Governors in our division.  I’m guessing that would not be a true statement since our club is so young and many other clubs have been existence much longer.  Perhaps we will have to ask our district director if he has that information.

Please be thinking about the District Convention in Memphis on Aug. 1 – 3.   We’d like to have a strong St. Martinville presence in attendance.

Even if you don’t read your bulletin online, if you have access to a computer and internet, please check out our website at www.stmartinkiwanis.org   Marti Harrell does an excellent job of having so much information at your fingertips.  Cruise the site and tell her how much you’re enjoying it!

*****SUBMIT YOUR INFO FOR THE DISTRICT KIWANIS
MEMBERSHIP DISASTER SURVEY  BY JUNE 10...
and have a chance to win a $150 gasoline gift card!*****

The Louisiana – Mississippi – West Tennessee Kiwanis District is working on a few exciting endeavors that would strengthen Kiwanians communication. We are working on creating a referral directory; Kiwanis Konnect, which would allow Kiwanians to search through a database to find a business that they need. We are also working on building a database for emergency use. This database would be used in a state of disaster to contact Kiwanians in need and network together to so that each community that we care for gets what is needed in a timely manner.

The survey form allows you to complete both your business and emergency contact information. It is necessary that each member complete and submit the member information data in
order that the District Disaster Plan and Kiwanis Konnect can be implemented. This information will not be distributed to anyone outside the Kiwanis organization. It is important that we receive this data no later than June 10th, 2008. Those Kiwanians who submit this form before June 10th, 2008 will be entered into a drawing for two (2) free gasoline gift cards worth $150.00 each.
