THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
Leadership is a potent combination of strategy and character. But if you must be without one, be without the strategy. - Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf

The Third Object of Kiwanis:  To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business, and professional standards.

Kiwanis Education #01:  The first Kiwanis club was organized in Detroit, Michigan, USA, in 1914. The group received a charter from the state of Michigan on January 21, 1915-the day that is regarded as the birth date of Kiwanis. The club’s name is Detroit Kiwanis Club No. 1 in recognition of its heritage.

THIS WEEK AND LAST WEEK:  Robin Hedge was our guest speaker this week.  She is Supervisor for CASA in the Sixteenth Judicial District.  CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate.  These are volunteers who become the voice of children in court matters.  Robin stressed that there are no volunteers in St. Martin Parish at this time.  Larry Roy is a former advocate who became active in the program after the CASA representative spoke to our Kiwanis club a few years ago.  If you could spare 5 or so hours a month and would be willing to serve as a volunteer, CASA really needs your help.  Contact Gerry if you are interested and she will give your name to Robin.

Christine also spoke about Every Child A Swimmer, our service project which will be conducted this week and next week at the City Pool.  Even if you were not able to volunteer your services, if you can come by the pool between 11:00 and 3:00 just to see how things are going and to lend your support to our project, that would be awesome.

We also spoke highly of the Spring Social at the Cade Community Center last Wednesday evening.  Thanks also to Parish President Kiwanian Guy Cormier who was our host and speaker for the evening.  Thanks and wow! to the cooks who brought delicious food for the occasion.  It was a very nice social and we’re sorry if you missed it.

Jean also celebrated May birthdays this week at the meeting and we sang “Happy Birthday” to Larry Roy and Dennis LeBlanc who were in attendance.

Some people bragged and some people whined as the ‘jar’ went around the table.  All in all, very good meetings the past two weeks.

Can you come?

Can you invite a friend?

Can you make a commitment to Kiwanis?

THE CHILDREN ARE WAITING …………….
