THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

There are two ways of exerting one’s strength:
     pushing down or pulling up.
          - Booker T. Washington

The First Object of Kiwanis: To give primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than to the material values of life.

Kiwanis Education #68:  Kiwanis International’s address on the World Wide Web is www.kiwanis.org. This Web site includes the texts of official Kiwanis documents, extensive information on club administrative and service topics, an on-line Kiwanis supplies catalog, the latest organizational news, and links to clubs, districts, and individual Kiwanians around the world.

This Week:  Jim Robb brought Darrel Moore with Wildlife and Fisheries as our guest speaker this week.  Lt. Moore’s main topics included water safety, humorous antidotes and stressing the importance of taking our children and grandchildren hunting and fishing.  Exploring nature is a great way to teach them respect.

The minutes of the board meeting were given to members present.  Dennis and Steve are moving forward with our AED project.  Sheriff Ronny Theriot has agreed to purchase AEDs to be placed in the vehicle of each high school resource officer at no cost to Kiwanis.  The committee’s next step is to talk to Supt. Lavergne and get his approval for AEDs at the Jr. High schools.

Larry announced that the Highway cleanup will not be held on April 5 because Sarah will be out of town.  He will announce the new date soon.

Interclub Chair Leslie Thibodeaux had us visiting New Iberia Kiwanis last week and brought her sister who just happens to be our charter president.  Leslie, Carol, Jean, Marti, Gerry (and Janel) were in attendance.  It was also interesting to see Paul deMahy’s brother, Philip, at the helm of the New Iberia club.  He is serving as president this year.  The guest speaker at their meeting was the true CSI – Acadiana Crime Lab Director was the guest speaker and had an interesting PowerPoint presentation.

There were brags this week but mostly complaints.  Carol complained about her lost purse, Jean complained about her grandson’s broken arm, Gerry complained about the fallen tree, and Steve complained that he doesn’t see his grandson near enough!

We were happy to see Marti back in our midst.  Marti had been on a short leave due to illness in her family.  We’re happy to report that her brother is doing much better!  Welcome back, Marti!  And although she’s been missing in action at our meetings, she still managed to keep our club website up to date and all spruced up.  (Marti's Note:  It's my pleasure to serve the club from behind the keyboard!  Please send any suggestions/additions/corrections, etc. etc., anytime!! email: bayoubug@hotmail.com)
