The Sixth Object of Kiwanis:
To cooperate in creating
and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism, which make
possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill.
Kiwanis Education #04:
The name “Kiwanis” was
coined from an expression of the American Indians in the Detroit area,
which was found in Bishop Baraga’s dictionary of the Otchipew language.
The expression “Nunc Kee-wan-nis” meant, broadly, “we trade” or “we share
our talents.” As a coined word, however, “Kiwanis” has no meaning except
as the name of a leading international service club.
THIS WEEK:
Brad Sonnier was unavoidably detained and so he will be our
speaker at the meeting next week.
Editor’s Note: I am happy and sad. I am happy because people really do
read the bulletin (we sometimes wondered). I am sad to have found out
this bit of information by the justified comments at our meeting this week
about a paragraph that I wrote last week.
I JUST WANT TO APOLOGIZE! In my feeble attempt to cheerlead
everyone to come to meetings, I misspoke. This is what I wrote:
Speaking of summer, all of you teachers, we’d love to
see you on Wednesday mornings at our meetings. And the rest of you who
used getting kids to school as an excuse, we’re looking forward to seeing
you also!
This is what I meant:
Hey guys, we miss you. We know that
you’re really busy with your kids during the school year, both as parents
and as teachers. We hope that your summer schedule affords you more
opportunities to come to our meetings.
As a mother of five, I know that mornings are difficult when you have to
get kids off to daycare, school, etc. I meant no disrespect to you. I
should not have used the word
excuse, I really meant
really valid
reason.

This weekend is Bike Safety Workshop at the library on Saturday at 9:00
a.m. Margot is in need of a few good people to help out at the library
(8:30) and at Wal-Mart (9:15). Please give an hour or so to help with
this worthwhile project.
Most of you received a Club Member Survey with your bulletin last week.
Those of you who get your bulletin by fax, sorry, I did not attach that
document last week. Hope you get it now. Please fill it out and give
back to me – my fax is 394-2256 or email it to me
gerryleblanc5@aol.com so that we can complete our Disaster Plan and
all of those members who complete and send in the
survey prior to June 10 will be eligible for the drawing of two $150 gas
cards. |

*****SUBMIT YOUR INFO FOR THE DISTRICT KIWANIS
MEMBERSHIP DISASTER SURVEY BY JUNE 10...
and have a chance to win a $150 gasoline gift card!*****
The Louisiana – Mississippi – West Tennessee Kiwanis District is working
on a few exciting endeavors that would strengthen Kiwanians communication.
We are working on creating a referral directory; Kiwanis Konnect, which
would allow Kiwanians to search through a database to find a business that
they need. We are also working on building a database for emergency use.
This database would be used in a state of disaster to contact Kiwanians in
need and network together to so that each community that we care for gets
what is needed in a timely manner.
The survey form allows you to complete both your business and emergency
contact information. It is necessary that each member complete and submit
the member information data in
order that the District Disaster Plan and Kiwanis Konnect
can be implemented. This information will not be distributed to anyone
outside the Kiwanis organization. It is important that we receive this
data no later than June 10th, 2008. Those Kiwanians who submit this form
before June 10th, 2008 will be entered into a drawing for two (2) free
gasoline gift cards worth $150.00 each.
