The Second Object of Kiwanis:
To encourage the daily
living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.
Kiwanis Education #06:
The first president of
Kiwanis International was George F. Hixson of the Rochester, New York,
club. He was elected at the first convention in Cleveland in 1916 and
re-elected the next year. He is the only International President to serve
for two terms. The Hixson Fellowship of the Kiwanis International
Foundation is named in his honor; Hixson medals are presented to donors
who have contributed at least $1,000 to the Hixson Endowment Fund or the
Worldwide Service Project.
THIS WEEK:
|
Janelle Hebert Gaye was our guest speaker this week. Janelle is
originally from St. Martinville, her parents owned and operated
Hebert’s Café in downtown St. Martinville for many years. Janelle
lived in New Orleans for many years and Katrina forced her
evacuation back to St. Martinville. She has become very active in
civic and artistic endeavors – one of which is teaching art classes
at the Acadian Memorial. She spoke to us about this and the other
projects she has been working on in the community. We’re always
excited when someone becomes involved with our beloved community
activities. |

Dennis conducted the meeting this week, pitch hitting for Jean who said
she wouldn’t be at the meeting. Dennis did very well and I think we will
all enjoy his term as President next year. Speaking of which, I am
starting a novena for a President-Elect to volunteer for next year.
District Convention registration deadline is July 15. Anyone wishing to
attend the convention in Memphis should contact Jean or Gerry to let them
know and get registration information.
Our
long distance Kiwanis member, Jan Peacock, will be visiting us from July 3
to July 7. Call Gerry or Carol if you’re interested in visiting with her. |
