THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

If nothing ever changed, there’d be no butterflies.
                                                                                           - Anonymous

The Sixth Object of Kiwanis:  To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism, which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill.

Kiwanis Education #04:  The name “Kiwanis” was coined from an expression of the American Indians in the Detroit area, which was found in Bishop Baraga’s dictionary of the Otchipew language. The expression “Nunc Kee-wan-nis” meant, broadly, “we trade” or “we share our talents.” As a coined word, however, “Kiwanis” has no meaning except as the name of a leading international service club.

THIS WEEK:

Brad Sonnier was our guest speaker this week and his main focus was the guard’s recent training and diplomatic operation to Thailand. He also shared how much the people of Iraq appreciate (and are very vocal in their appreciation) of our presence in their country and what our troops have done for them in eliminating Saddam.  To hear one of the people who has been over there speak about his experience was very impressive to me.

Thanks to Margot and her committee, along with the staff of the St. Martin Parish Library and the Cajun Cyclist Club, for their efforts in making another Bike Safety Project successful.  Although the attendance was not as good as usual, 35 kids had pre-registered for the event.

Even if you did not fill out your survey yet, we are still asking that you do so in order that we may update our own club records and have up-to-date contact information on everyone in our organization.

Please contact Gerry 380-4300 or 394-9396 if you would like to attend the District Convention in Memphis on the first weekend in August.  We are preparing to make hotel reservations and need your input.

Thanks to Leslie Thibodeaux for organizing an interclub with the Kiwanis Club of Pont Breaux.  In attendance were Leslie, Jean, Dan and Gerry.  We had a really nice time visiting with Pont Breaux and sharing Kiwanis information.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:  Our Kiwanis meeting will NOT be at the Sheriff’s office next week.  It will be at the LASBH Company (Old Martin Mills bldg.) again.  This time we are to meet in the back of the building where we will have a tour of the finished product.  Please make every effort to attend and if you see any Kiwanians between now and then, please talk about the change of location for the meeting!!!!!!  If you have any questions, call Jean at 394-9734.
