THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference,
ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up
to big differences that we often cannot foresee.  – Marion Wright Edelman

The Second Object of Kiwanis:  To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.

Kiwanis Education #12:  The Kiwanis motto, “We Build,” was adopted in 1920. It was proposed by Roe Fulkerson, first editor of the Kiwanis Magazine, who later said, “God inspired me to write those two words-We Build. I am prouder of them than any other accomplishment in my life.”

THIS WEEK:  Harvey the Rabbit, Rock Climbing, Tee Shirts, Nik-L-Beer, Port-o-lets, gates, beer, food, dancing, motorcycles … all topics of conversation and discussion at our meeting on Wednesday.  If you haven’t concluded that we were having a Pepper Festival Committee meeting, then you haven’t concluded correctly.  From Dennis and his cohort, thanks for the lively participation and great suggestions at the meeting.  It was so much fun, we’ll do it again real soon.

Our meeting was also exciting because our fellow Kiwanians from the Kiwanis Club of New Iberia interclubbed this week.  Gene Jefferies who is one of our former Lt. Governors, put money in the brag jar because he met his current wife (former St. Martinville Kiwanian Junell Segura) while they were both serving in leadership capacities in Kiwanis.

Our club will be well represented at the District Convention in Memphis this weekend.  Dennis and Annie will attend the Leadership Conference on Friday.  The rest of us will eat and drink heavily while they are working so diligently … Just Kidding!  We have sessions all weekend and hope to bring some exciting information back home to you.

School is starting next week but I know our Teacher Members are already hard at work getting ready for the kids to come next Thursday or thereabouts.

You will note in the calendar of events that our Kiwanis members have been invited to attend the Grand Opening of the ARC Apartments on August 13.  Every year our club supports the ARC and the City of St. Martinville’s summer program by sponsoring the ARC week of fun in volleyball.  I have had the pleasure of visiting with the ARC clients for the past several years during their volleyball camp and can vouch for the excitement and fun generated that week.
