THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
The real art of conversation is not only to say the right thing in the right place,
but to leave unsaid the wrong thing
                     at the tempting moment.

The Fourth Object of Kiwanis: To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.

Kiwanis Education #64:  The Kiwanis administrative year begins on October 1. Originally, clubs and districts operated on the calendar year. However, Kiwanis International officers were elected at the annual conventions in early summer and assumed office immediately or, beginning in 1950, on August 1. This led to many problems of budgeting, programming, and leadership. For example, each International President worked with two sets of district governors and club presidents, and vice versa. Finally, in 1969 the administrative year beginning October 1 was adopted for all levels of Kiwanis organization.

This Week:  Jean is in need of guest speakers.  If you know of someone who would be of interest to our club, please let Jean know and she’ll tell you the dates that are available.
Our meeting was sparsely attended Wednesday – too bad, because Carol had good information on member orientation this week.  I know it was cold and hot and rainy and sunny and cold and hot – this week – but we still would have loved to see you!  Carol also encouraged everyone in our club to go out and actively invite someone to join Kiwanis.  ASK!
Super bowl Sunday at Gerry & Dennis’ house, although Dennis will not be in attendance.  He will be protecting the streets of St. Martinville and making sure everyone is safe and sound!  Those of us who will be at the Super bowl party will surely miss him but will carry on bravely.  Please make plans to come and bring some prospective Kiwanians with you.  Let them witness Kiwanis in party mode.  Chili will be served and if you would like to bring munchies, you are welcome to do so.  Head count is appreciated (394-9396) and cost as usual is $5 per person.  Dan has free beer for the afternoon and the house will provide soft beverages.  A football pool will be available and if you are unable to attend the party but would like to get in on the pool, please also call Gerry at above phone number with your request.  Remember that the Newcomer’s Parade is also Sunday afternoon and it may take you longer than usual to get to Gerry’s house.
Last weekend we attended our first ever Regional Summit which was a test to take the place of Mid Winter Conference.  With only 3 of the regional summits having taken place, attendance has already surpassed the Mid Winter Conference attendance of last year.  It was an informative, fun day in a really nice setting.  It also served as Gov. David Pickler’s official visit to our area.
On Sunday, our annual Kiwanis Family Day Brunch was held at Clambeaugh’s and enjoyed by all those in attendance.  Jean, great job as usual!  Thanks to everyone who participated in our weekend activities.  Keep up the good work!
