The Third Object of Kiwanis:
To promote the adoption
and the application of higher social, business, and professional
standards.
Kiwanis Education #13:
About
140 staff and supporting personnel work at the Kiwanis International
Office in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, which includes the staffs of Key
Club International, Circle K International, and the Kiwanis International
Foundation. The building is owned by Kiwanis and is debt-free. Kiwanis
International also operates regional service centers in Europe, South
America, and Asia to serve the needs of clubs in those regions more
efficiently.
THIS WEEK: Before I even begin to tell you about what’s happening
with our club, I have to share my
feelings
and excitement for our USA Olympians who have journeyed far and hard to
get to the special place
they are at this very moment. This morning 08-08-08 I felt
so puffed with pride and patriotism, that when I selected my outfit for
today, I couldn’t help but put on the most red, white and blue I could
find in my closet. This will help me to remember all day long that
awesome experience that these athletes are having right now for the next
10 days or so. At times like this, I am so proud to be an American!

Thank you, Leslie, for bringing Wanda Barras to our meeting as guest
speaker. Wanda has an awesome goat farm and cheese factory right at her
home here in St. Martinville. Wanda explained how she got started, what
goes into the process – from milking to finished product.
Well, we’re back …. Yes, your fearless Kiwanis Konvention Krewe is back
and we have brought back information, awards, stories, excitement,
enthusiasm, and firm renewed commitment to our club and organization. Our
bbq basket was a great hit at the auction and helped to net $3,000 for the
District Foundation. We also want to report that Elvis is alive and well
(although a little unhealthy in the weight department). His singing is
not as good as it used to be but so what - neither is our hearing.
Barbeque abounds in Memphis and we were fortunate enough to sample some at
the convention. A former Olympic Gold Medalist, Dave Wottle, was the
Keynote speaker at the Opening Session and was fantastic. He won his
medal in Munich in 1972 in one of the closest finishes in Olympic
history.
And
we have to brag … Congratulations to Elaine St. Julien for a
“Distinguished” job during her year as President in 2006-07! Her efforts
led our club to be recognized as a Distinguished Club by our district and
also by Kiwanis International; Annie as Distinguished Secretary; and we
received a Service Leadership Award for interclubbing with our sponsored
youth. And through our club’s efforts, Gerry LeBlanc was recognized as
Distinguished Lt. Governor.
Please be aware that we have been invited to attend the Grand Opening of
the ARC apartments on August 13 at 6:00 p.m. RSVPs are necessary.
