THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

Give what you have! |
     To someone,
it may be better than you dare to think.
                 — Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

The Fourth Object of Kiwanis:  To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.

Kiwanis Education #14:  The 1924 convention in Denver, Colorado, became known as the “Constitutional Convention.” In the process of finalizing a complete International Constitution and Bylaws, Kiwanis officially adopted the name Kiwanis International and the six permanent Objects.

THIS WEEK:  I was so excited about the Olympics last week that I forgot to tell you about the really big news!  There are only eight gold stones in the lottery bag.  You may want to come to Kiwanis next week just to gamble.  The odds are with you!

I don’t want to toot my own horn but … okay, I will.  I had a really informative program – “Do you have a heavy foot?”  And what I meant was – “Do you have a heavy carbon footprint?”  Making you all aware of how you can reduce your carbon footprint by recycling, reusing, conserving in general.  The program was also geared at showing some ways we can all make a difference:  Recycling your newspaper, cardboard, glass, plastic, oil, tires, ink cartridges are all ways you can make a difference.  Another huge heap into saving is purchasing and using the Wal Mart cloth bags to put your groceries in.  And don’t forget to bring them with you the next time you go.  It took me a little while not to forget to bring them into the store with me each time.  But as with anything, it does become a habit – a GOOD HABIT!

Jean announced that the Division 17 meeting will be held at Lt. Gov. Alyson Baird’s house in Gray, LA on September 13.  She asked that anyone interested in attending to let her know so that she can notify Alyson.

Interclub Chair Leslie Thibodeaux organized an interclub this week with Jeanerette.  Those attending were:  Leslie, Annie, Jean, Gerry and Marti.

Congratulations to Kiwanian Marlene Champagne on her recent wedding to Clark Robin.  Marlene and Clark were married on July 21.  Marlene, bring your new husband to Kiwanis so we can meet him.

On a sad note, Kiwanian Billy McClain
has been ill and we want
to extend our best wishes and thoughts to him.
Billy, let us know if we can do anything to help you.
