Kiwanis Education #74:  US Kiwanians cannot claim Kiwanis dues as a personal tax deduction. However, Kiwanis dues may qualify as a deductible business expense when a business pays the costs of Kiwanis membership for an employee. Such a business deduction must also meet the “ordinary and necessary” test and other requirements for deductible business expenses. Kiwanians should consult a qualified tax adviser on all tax questions. 

THIS WEEK:  Our program this week was “Kiwanis Legacy” presented by our resident past Lt. Governors Marti Harrell and Carol Lagarde.  It is always important and necessary for us to remember where we’ve been in order to move forward to where we want to go.  (I think I’m paraphrasing some famous quote – but it seemed very appropriate right here.)  Carol and Marti oriented and re-oriented some of us on the history of Kiwanis International.  (Another famous quote – “we all learn by experience.  Some of us just have to go to summer school.”) 

**ATTENTION!  ATTENTION!  VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION!  May 7, 2008 – 6:30 p.m. our Kiwanis meeting will be at the Cade Community Center and has been designated as our Spring Social.  Please bring a pot luck dish and guests, spouses, partners, prospective members, etc. and join us for an evening of socializing.  We will have no morning meeting that day.  If you show up at the Sheriff’s Office and no one is there, may it remind you to come to the evening meeting that night!!

We are looking for one good man or woman!  Okay, you don’t have to be sooo good … just willing!  Dennis is asking for a volunteer to be vice president for his term.  Look into your hearts and see if you can make a commitment to Kiwanis for a year.  THIS HAS BEEN A PAID POLITICAL ADVERTISEMENT AND  I APPROVE THIS MESSAGE.
