THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
You have to do your own growing no matter how tall your grandfather was.
-Abraham Lincoln

First Object of Kiwanis: To give primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than to the material values of life.

Kiwanis Education:
Every Child A Swimmer (ECAS) is the brainchild of Christine Berard.  At a Kiwanis International Convention in Miami, Christine first heard about this great project and brought it back to us!  In cooperation with the City of St. Martinville Pool personnel, the St. Martinville Kiwanis have dedicated
themselves to provide each kindergarten student in the town of St. Martinville with the opportunity to take free swimming lessons for 1 week. The program is being managed by Edna Landry, general manager and consultant for the St. Martinville City Pool. The lessons will be staffed and taught by experienced swimming instructors, with help from local Kiwanis, Key Club, and Builder s Club members.  Lifeguards supervising the swim program will be licensed Ellis & Associates lifeguards who are fully equipped and trained to provide optimum safety for all students and adults. The goal of the program is to provide every child with an opportunity to learn some basic skills necessary to afford some degree of personal safety in and around water.

THIS WEEK:  I’m sorry if you missed this week’s meeting and you are interested in butterflies.  Our guest speaker, Ramona Babin, was so very interesting and had wonderful show and tell props with her presentation on how to attract and keep butterflies in your garden.  WOW!  Boy, did I love it.  Thanks to Jean for getting Ramona to speak this week.

Next week will be presented to you by Carol and Marti, our resident “thought you ought to know” people.  Please make every effort to attend the meeting and brush up on your Kiwanis facts.

Next week is also Teacher Appreciation at SMSH with Key Club washing cars for teachers and various other activities for the teachers.  They are also conducting penny wars at this time to raise money for St. Jude’s and Relay for Life (I think).

It is also time to sign up for Every Child A Swimmer  (May 15-21), Bike Safety (June 7) and various summer conferences.

**May 7 – 6:30 p.m. will be an evening meeting at the Cade Community Center with Kiwanian Guy Cormier being our host.  THERE WILL BE NO MORNING MEETING ON MAY 7.

Our long distance Kiwanian, Jan Peacock, has had two surgeries six weeks ago and is still in need of our good thoughts and prayers.  Her email address is   jan@deanas.msstate.edu  Her mailing address is  107 Mangrove Palm, Starkville, MS 39759.

ASK someone to come to a Kiwanis meeting with you!
