THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
To give pleasure to a single heart
by a single kind act is better than
              a thousand head-bowings in prayer.
                               — Saddi

The Sixth Object of Kiwanis: To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism, which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill.

Kiwanis Education:  #73:  Kiwanis dues cannot be claimed as a personal tax deduction. As nonprofit corporations, Kiwanis clubs do not pay taxes on income. But Kiwanis clubs do not qualify as deductible charities for members or donors who provide the club’s income. This is why some clubs, districts, and Kiwanis International have established charitable foundations to receive tax-deductible donations for service purposes.

THIS WEEK:
Happy Birthday to you.  Happy Birthday to you.  Happy Birthday, dear Kiwanians.  Happy Birthday to you.  If your birthday is in April, it was your birthday party this week.  Sorry you missed it.  We had cake and ice cream, party hats and balloons … NOT.  But we did honor those April birthdays.

Also at the meeting this week, your club elected new officers and directors for the 2008-09 fiscal year under the capable direction of Paul deMahy.  They are:

President           Dennis LeBlanc
President-elect   Yet to be named
Secretary          Annie Durand
(appointed by board as per by-laws)
Treasurer           Peggy Hardy
                   Directors:
Dan Berard, Steve Comeaux, Carol Lagarde, Margaret Richard,
                                          Leslie Thibodeaux.
Also board members – immediate past president and Pepper Festival Chair.
Ladies and Gentlemen, here are the people who are making a commitment to your Kiwanis Club for next year.  Please thank them for their willingness to serve your club.

It is time for your service fix! The month of May brings opportunities for service to your community through the Every Child A Swimmer Project.  June brings Bike Safety Project.    Sign up for one of these projects in order not to be lacking in the area of “Feel Good” opportunities.

Larry Roy has thanked those who assisted
 with the Highway Cleanup Project
and expressed his disappointment at the lack
of participation by Kiwanians at this project.

It seems that it is time for us to look around at our friends, work associates and family members to invite them to share Kiwanis with them.  ASK SOMEONE TO JOIN KIWANIS!

**SPECIAL NOTE:  Our Kiwanis meeting on May 7 will be an evening meeting at the Cade Community Center with Kiwanian, Parish President Guy Cormier as our host.  More details to follow next week.  Check your local bulletin for time and particulars.  (This would be a great time to invite a prospective member to see what we’re all about.)
