THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK: To have striven, to have made the effort, to have been true to certain ideals - this alone is worth the struggle.  - William Osler

The First Object of Kiwanis:  To give primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than to the material values of life.

Kiwanis Education #48:
The Kiwanis Legion of Honor recognizes Kiwanians who have been members for 25 years and longer (membership need not be continuous or in the same club). Special lapel pins indicating Legion of Honor membership at five-year intervals are available from the Kiwanis International Supplies Department and should be presented to qualified members on the appropriate anniversaries. Since the Legion of Honor began, more than 780 Kiwanians have been recognized for 60 years, 170 for 65 years, 20 for 70 years, and three for 75 years.

This Week:  Guest and speaker for the day was Deanna Welch, of Breaux Bridge.  Steve tried for the Red stone, for the second week in a row, and still did not win.   Better luck next time.

Our garage sale is this Saturday at 204 Louisiana Avenue (Durand Subdivision) and we would like everyone to come out and support this project.  If you cannot bring your sale items prior to that morning, please come a little early and make sure your items are priced.  And if you don’t have anything to contribute, then you must need STUFF at your house.  Come and buy some of ours!!!!

Jean is asking people to volunteer for committees and projects for the coming year, so if you are not able to attend the meetings but want to put your name on the committee list, please contact Jean at jpotier@cox.net or call her (if you can catch her home) at 394-9734.

Advance orders for Pepper Festival shirts are available.   Please contact Mary or Gerry if you would like to order tee shirts, etc.

If you read this bulletin before Friday September 14, 2007, please note that this is the last day to turn in your “Kiwanis Bucks” ‘06-‘07 Kiwanis  year.  If you still want to turn them in, you may bring them to Elaine at Teche Bank until 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Regarding the Installation Banquet: you will be receiving an invitation under separate cover, containing two banquet tickets.  We are asking each member to purchase at least one of their tickets to the banquet, even if you cannot attend.  It is a fundraiser for our club and your financial support is always appreciated.  Of course, we’d rather have you attend so that we may socialize with you and catch up on what’s going on in your busy world.  The evening at Clambeaugh’s newly spruced-up restaurant promises to be a fun time for all in attendance.

Program:  Deanna Welch spoke to us about the Citywide Garage Sale and Outdoor Flea Market being put on in Breaux Bridge at the beginning of October.  The organizers of this event hope to make it even bigger in the future by getting outlying areas to participate.  She answered all of our questions and shared what a great thing this has been for the local merchants.

*PLEASE NOTE:  Next week’s meeting/program may be held at the new Public Safety Complex located between Parks and Breaux Bridge on Highway 31.  Phone committee and email correspondence will let you know definitely.
