Jun 09 – Bike Safety Event
Jun 13 – Regular Meeting
Jun 21 – Board Meeting – Judy Bonhomme, Host

THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK: In preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable!  - Dwight D. Eisenhower

The Second Object of Kiwanis:   To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships

Kiwanis Education:  #37 - Club bylaws provide that the club’s board of directors shall determine the policies and activities of the club, elect and discipline members, approve the budget and all bills, and have general management of the club. But the club board cannot bind future boards to a continuing policy or project. Committing the club to a project lasting more than one administrative year requires a two-thirds vote of the members at a designated club meeting.

Kiwanis Bucks:  Don’t forget the offer made by Elaine for you to have a chance to beef up your “Kiwanis Bucks” with several incentives.  Speaker getter and greeter through June will receive double bucks; bringing in a new member through July will also get you double bucks.
At the  5/30 meeting, Annie Durand won $100,000 for being the name that was drawn from a pool of members who could write the Kiwanis defining statement.    Congratulations to Annie!

This week, lo and behold, we sang a new song.  “You’re a Grand old Flag, and didn’t sound too bad.  There was no lottery, since Paul was not present.  The Brag/Complain jar was in demand.

Program 5/31:  Marti and Carol did their quarterly orientation. This ongoing education is beneficial for new members as they come in, and also to update older members on any changes that might occur.

Program 6/06: – Scott Schilling and Sanjay Kharod of T.R.A.I.L. spoke to us about the possibility of  a bike/pedestrian trail that will connect Lafayette, St. Martinville and Breaux Bridge.  The focus of  the non-profit organization T.R.A.I.L. (Transportation Recreation Alternative in Louisiana), is on obtaining funding for the implementation and design of bike and pedestrian trails.  They hope to accomplish this feat by way of grants, fund raising events, and supporting and promoting bicycling and walking events. They are asking for support from organizations as well as private citizens.  This item will be on the agenda for the Board Meeting on 6/21.
