THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK: What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters, compared to what lies within us.  Ralph Waldo Emerson

The Fifth Object of Kiwanis:  To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities.

Kiwanis Education:  #41:  There are four categories of membership in a Kiwanis club: active, privileged, senior, and honorary. All members enter Kiwanis as active members. The privileged class of membership was closed in 1963, and this class will cease to exist when the last privileged member leaves his club.

This Week:  Sorry about the abbreviated bulletin today but we wanted to get some important information out to you about convention deadlines and we aren’t having a meeting on the 4th of July …

The Kiwanis District Convention will be held in New Orleans at the Ritz Carlton on August 2-5.  If you are planning to attend this convention, you need to contact Elaine St. Julien at 394-9726 BEFORE JULY 11.  Due to the high cost of registration for this convention, the board decided that the budget would only allow for the cost of registration for this convention.  You will be required to pay your share of room costs.  The rooms are $136.70 per night.  We have secured 2 rooms for Kiwanians to share.  Please contact Gerry  380-4300 if you would like for her to book a separate room for you.

I would be remiss if I did not mention the fabulous birthday party that Jean threw at the meeting this week for the June birthdays.  She was greeter and speaker getter.  Donna Richard with the St. Martin Parish Tourism Bureau was our guest speaker and generated a long question and answer period with a lot of good information and insight for us and our Pepper Festival promotion.  Thanks, Jean, for the wonderful start of a Wednesday!!!!

Some of your fellow Kiwanians will be traveling to Texas (maybe by boat if it doesn’t stop flooding) to represent your club at the International Convention and vote on important issues and elect a new slate of  officers.  Keep those traveling – and voting – in your thoughts and prayers.

Have a safe and Happy Fourth of July!!
