THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK: We are all called upon to do small things with great love.
                                                                                  -Mother Teresa

The Sixth Object of Kiwanis:  To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism, which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill.

Kiwanis Education:
#42:  The first International convention staged outside the United States and Canada was in Vienna, Austria, in 1983, marking the 20th anniversary of the organization of the Vienna club, the first in Europe. The second International convention outside North America occurred in Nice, France, in 1993.

This Week:
We had a full house at Kiwanis today and that was GREAT!  The energy in the room was so vibrant that I could feel it bouncing off the walls and carried me through the day.  A good Kiwanis meeting is better than drugs!  Come on over and see if you agree.
Thanks, Dennis, for bringing Lt. Col. Larry Landry of the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s office to our meeting today.  Larry spoke on precautions and preparation for the possibility of a Flu Pandemic.  Very informative!  There are ways you can be prepared and healthier for if and when we get a pandemic.  Log on to www.dhh.louisiana.gov for more information on this subject.
Carroll Delahoussaye was a guest this morning so that he could personally thank our club for the participation and donation to the summer program that the City of St. Martinville puts on each year.  We contribute to the program which is geared to the ARC of St. Martin clients.
There will be a board meeting Thursday night (July 19) at Carol Lagarde’s house hosted by Annie Durand.  There will also be a Pepper Festival  meeting on August 1 at our regular morning meeting.  Please make every effort to attend.
Peggy and I apologize for not having a bulletin last week and in advance for next week because we will both be out of town.  We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you.  GET OVER IT!
At the Kiwanis International Convention, delegates Jean Potier, Dennis Leblanc and delegate-at-large Gerry LeBlanc spent much of the week in sessions of the house.  And no alcohol was involved much to their regret.  LaMissTenn’s Bascom Allen was voted in as International Trustee at this convention and there was much opportunity for conversing with Kiwanians from all parts of the world!  Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to represent you in San Antonio.  And on a personal note, I have to comment on the VIP treatment afforded those who had participated in the gold key program of Kiwanis International.  Remember it is the incentive to recruit 1-2-3 new members into Kiwanis.  We were seated in the front section of the auditorium for the opening and closing sessions and were treated to a reception hosted by last year’s Intl. President. At the convention it was announced that this program will be again in effect for the coming year.  Please work on bringing your 3 new members into Kiwanis.  I believe that district is also going to recognize the 1-2-3 program participants.
Edna Landry, Trinity Builders Club sponsor, came by to let us know that the Builders Club has used their funds to have the bleachers repainted in the Trinity Upper Campus Gym.  Thanks, Edna and Builders Club for your service to Trinity!
