THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK: To be able to lead others, a man must be willing to go forward alone.   --Harry Truman

The Fifth Object of Kiwanis:  To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities.

Kiwanis Education #46:     Persons who have performed a distinguished public service may be elected to honorary membership in a Kiwanis club. Honorary members must be re-elected annually. Honorary members may attend meetings and other club activities but cannot vote or hold office in the club. Honorary members do not pay membership fees or dues, but the club provides each honorary member with a subscription to KIWANIS magazine.

This Week:  Guests today  were Sue Thibodeaux, Registrar of Voters, and Burton Dupuis, Administrator of St. Martin Hospital, and speaker for the day.

Elaine, our own Madame President, had the chance for lottery today.   Even with coaching from Gerry on how to hold her fingers to pick the stone she only got her dollar back.   Oh well…try again.

Elaine asked that everyone count their “Bucks” and advise her of their totals - especially if you’ve reached “Millionaire” status. The last date to earn bucks for this year will be September 12, 2007.

Jean is asking people to volunteer for committees and projects for the coming year, so if you are not able to attend the meetings but want to put your name on the committee list, please contact Jean at jpotier@cox.net or call her (if you can catch her home) at 394-9734.

Advance orders for Pepper Festival shirts are available.   Please contact Mary or Gerry if you would like to order tee shirts, etc.

Jean is organizing a garage sale for September 15th.  If you would like to contribute anything or help in any way, contact her @394-9734.  Please pre-price your items.  You will need to call her to set up a time to drop off items.  (We understand that all proceeds will be donated to our administrative fund – so be generous with your time and treasures.)

Sue Thibodeaux, St. Martin Parish Registrar of Voters,  distributed information concerning the upcoming Elections.  For the Primary Election on October 20th (the day before Pepper Festival.),  the schedule for early voting is from  October 6 thru 13, and the last day to register or change is September 19, 2007.  For the General Election on November 17th. Early voting will be held from November 3rd thru Nov.  10th , and last day to register will be October 17, 2007.

Program:  Mr. Burton Dupuis, Administrator of St. Martin Hospital, came to bring us a report of the state of the hospital and reiterate what services that are offered in our parish with ease of access.  The numbers are impressive and the hard work of the St. Martin Hospital staff is evident by their progress report.
