THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK: When we give it our all, we can live with ourselves regardless of the results.  –William Wordsworth

The Fourth Object of Kiwanis:  To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.

Kiwanis Education #45:  Eliminating iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) is the objective of Kiwanis International’s historic Worldwide Service Project. The easiest way to prevent IDD is by ionization of salt, which has eliminated IDD in most developed countries. The goal of the Worldwide Service Project is to raise USS75 million to finally eliminate IDD by salt ionization and public education in all the remaining at-risk areas of the world.

This Week:   We had a full house and a  special treat this morning.  Our  SMSH Key Club officers were in attendance for the meeting.  Samantha Ned, President; Chelsie Bourque, Vice-President; Albreanie Prados, Secretary; Cassie Poche, Treasurer;  Kayla Heintz, Advisor to Officers; and Kevin Dugas, Advisor  were welcomed warmly by our club. We don’t often get to see them at the meetings  so that we can show them that we are very proud of them and the work they do to make our community a better place.  Samantha stated that this would be “the best year EVER”.  Go Key Club!

Jean had her second try in a row to win the lottery, but got her dollar back.   Larry announced that the Fall Highway Clean-up will be on October 6, 2007.  More on this project later.

Elaine asked that everyone count their “Bucks” and advise her of your totals - especially if you’ve reached “Millionaire” status.

The newest “Millionaire” is Dennis LeBlanc.  The last date to earn bucks for this year will be September 12, 2007.

Jean is asking people to volunteer for committees and projects for the coming year, so if you are not able to attend the meetings but want to put your name on the committee list, please contact Jean at jpotier@cox.net or call her (if you can catch her home) at 394-9734.

Mary Arton brought Pepper Festival  tee shirt samples and  an order form for Kiwanians to place orders.  Please contact Mary or Gerry if you would like to order tee shirts.

Our program this week was community analysis and club assessment brought to you by Lt. Gov. Gerry LeBlanc.  She explained the importance of re-evaluating our club annually to see how we’re doing and what we could do better.  She also asked everyone to take a community analysis form to the leaders of our fair city and ask them to fill them out so that we can see what needs are not being met that we could work on as a club.

Gerry and Marti also shared with the club an opportunity we have every day of having money donated to the Kiwanis International Foundation by using  the search engine goodsearch.com  on the internet.  They explained that by typing in goodsearch.com and naming Kiwanis International Foundation as your charity, goodsearch would donate each time you signed on their search engine.  Pretty simple and an easy way for us to help KI Foundation.  If you are computer savvy, we encourage you to use goodsearch … for the good of Kiwanis!  (Just click on any of the goodsearch.com links in this story to check it out!)
