THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK: No act of kindness, no matter how small,
is ever wasted.   -Aesop

The Fifth Object of Kiwanis:   To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities.

Kiwanis Education:  #34   The official emblems of Kiwanis and other Kiwanis-family members’ registered marks are created and controlled by the International Board of Trustees. No other organization or enterprise can use the names or emblems without prior consent of the International Board. Clubs, divisions, districts, and other official Kiwanis entities are licensed to use Kiwanis-family names and emblems on stationery, bulletins, and other items reasonably necessary to their operation, provided that such items are not resold for profit. Protection of our Kiwanis-family names and emblems from unauthorized use is imperative to maintain the reputation and public confidence Kiwanis has earned over many decades.

THIS WEEK: Guest and speaker for this week was Renee Rhodes representing Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA).  Steve had the chance at Lottery, and won his dollar back.  I guess that the Brag Jar got a lot of action today due to the great attendance at this meeting.
Please welcome our newest member of Kiwanis, Mr. James Trosclair.
Big business for today was the Annual Meeting and Election of Officers for the coming year 2007-2008.  I know everyone wishes them a successful term.

and passing the list around for helpers
on that important project.
Please call her @ 394-5264
if you can volunteer some hours.

TODAY'S PROGRAM:
Renee Rhodes of LOPA talked to us about becoming organ/tissue donors.   When one is an organ donor there is the possibility of helping 9 people and over 50 people if  a tissue donor.  She told us that there are 95,000 people waiting for transplants and every 13 minutes another name is added to the list. To become a donor you can have it noted on your driver’s license, but also tell your family that you wish to be a donor. With her own personal experience, she made a very good point about the importance of having a conversation with your family about becoming a donor. It was a very interesting and moving presentation.
